FAQ
Who is this course intended for?
This Blender course is made for all skill levels. Though having some understanding of Blender beforehand is helpful.
Is my PC powerful enough?
Point clouds aren't as render intensive as you think! On average my reels for Instagram take around an hour or two to render. You can expect animations to take 3-30 seconds per frame, depending on your scene and PC specs.
What are the course requirements?
If your computer can run Blender, you have everything you need! The following are recommended but not required.
- If you want to do your own LiDAR scans (see Chapter 3), you'll need a device with a LiDAR sensor, the most affordable devices being iPad Pro 2020 or iPhone 12 Pro. If that's not feasible you can stick to traditional photogrammetry or find plenty of free scans are available online.
- Metashape if you'd like to scan places with a 360 camera
What's is Chapter 2 all about?
If you previously purchased the course, you get these additional lessons for FREE! Here I take a deeper dive on more advanced point cloud methods such as working with street data, how to UV map points, working with volumetric video and MORE!
Does this course cover simulation nodes?
My aim with this course is to ensure it's accessible to learners of ALL skill levels. Simulation nodes can become technical and intricate quite quickly, so I'll reserve those lessons for a standalone advanced course on point clouds potentially in the future...
How do I watch the course after purchasing?
You can stream the videos here on Gumroad after purchasing. You can watch on any device. I recommend downloading the video for best quality!
What version of Blender do I need?
3.1 or newer. The process is generally the same between versions, if Blender releases any major changes that affect the workflow I'm sharing, I'll update the course. 4.0+ is recommended for the upcoming expanded course but is not necessary.
